Thanks for visiting. Germany and China are leading the world in solar power installations. Germany installed 7.5 GW in solar power farms in 2011 alone.
Germany gets over 3% of it's total power from solar (18 billion KW hours) and that number is planned to grow to over 25% by 2050
Solar panels have come down in price well over 50% to under $1 USD/watt making solar a fantastic alternative to traditional power sources in warmer climates. The power can be stored by pumping water up into reservoirs, and releasing it past turbines as the power is needed.

The good news is that there's plenty of sunshine available to support the world's energy needs. In the U.S., just one square meter of sunlight can potentially generate on average a kilowatt of power an hour. On a global scale, the sun radiates more than 6,000 times the world's energy needs every day. In other words, we need less than 0.02% of the sun's energy to power the world as of 2011.
